Toei Shinyaku Co., Ltd. presented two studies on outdoor-cultivated Agaricus KA21 at the 26th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine, held from June 26 to 28, 2026, at PACIFICO Yokohama North in Yokohama, Japan.
The two presentations covered different areas of Toei Shinyaku’s continuing research on Agaricus KA21: β-glucan biodistribution and immunomodulatory research conducted in collaboration with Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, and human clinical research on quality of life in middle-aged and older men conducted in collaboration with Shigakkan University and D Clinic.
1. β-Glucan Biodistribution and Immunomodulatory Research
The first study was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Immunology, School of Pharmacy, Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences.
The research investigated the biodistribution and biological effects of β-glucans derived from the fruiting body of outdoor-cultivated Agaricus brasiliensis KA21 in mice.
The study used β-glucan measurement technologies developed through collaborative research between Toei Shinyaku and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences to investigate the behavior of orally administered Agaricus KA21-derived β-glucans in the body.
This study was selected for an Excellent Presentation Session at the conference and was presented orally.

2. Human Clinical Study in Middle-Aged and Older Men
The second study was conducted in collaboration with Shigakkan University and D Clinic.
The study evaluated the continuous intake of outdoor-cultivated Agaricus KA21 in middle-aged and older men using quality-of-life and men’s health-related measures.
The research was conducted as a randomized, double-blind, crossover clinical study in men aged 40 years and older.
Participants consumed 800 mg of Agaricus KA21 per day for eight weeks, and the researchers evaluated changes in quality-of-life and men’s health-related parameters.
The study was presented in the conference’s poster session on supplements and health foods.
